Free radicals
Free radicals are considered among the worst enemies of our health and beauty. They are unstable molecules that form in our body during cellular metabolism. When their oxidative capacity is not used in normal metabolic processes, and their quantity is excessive, they can oxidize the cells of our body causing damages of varying severity. Wrinkles, dark spots and the loss of skin elasticity are nothing but the outward manifestation of the oxidative damage; there are also repercussions on the body at a deeper level. In fact, the progressive oxidation and the degenerative damage that follows go under the name of aging.
Health and beauty
At any age, beauty is closely related with health. The body can count on a valuable antioxidant system against free radicals in excess, the effectiveness of which is conditioned by general health and, in particular, by age and physical and psychological stress. Preserving the physical integrity and maintaining the balance and energy state typical of youth for as long as possible requires a series of daily wise choices. Regulating one's lifestyle may help to keep free radicals under control and to reduce oxidative stress, helping to maintain a young and healthy appearance.
Here are some general rules to apply daily: take care of and vary the diet; avoid skipping meals as much as possible; opt for healthy cooking methods, such as grilling, boiling, microwaving, baking, using non-stick cookware; eat whole food, fruit and vegetables every day; limit the use of saturated fats; use extra virgin olive oil; limit the use of salt and sugar; drink a sufficient amount of water and a moderate amount of alcohol; engage in physical activity every day and practice sports as often as possible, without forgetting to enjoy a few moments of relaxation.
Also, in some particular situations, it can be useful to take specific antioxidants to compensate for the increased needs of the body.
